River Mist - Upper deck

River Mist Cabin – Property Description:

This fisherman’s cabin is a perfect getaway. Watch the morning river mist dissipate over a cup of coffee on the upper deck as the sun comes up and warms the land. Bring the day to a close with your favorite beverage in hand seated on a bench at the river’s edge (only 30 feet from the deck).

River fishing — This area of the White River, below Bull Shoals Dam, is internationally known for premier trout fishing. Fly fishing is extremely popular and fisherman can fish from the bank, or wade during low water periods. Many angler fish from a flat-bottom 16-20 foot john-boat equipped with a 10-20 hp motor. BYOB – you can “bring your own boat” or rent a boat or boat/guide locally (Debbie at Cotter Trout Dock will give our guests a discount and provides super service). The Game and Fish Commission stocks hundreds of thousands of rainbows in the White annually and anglers come here from all corners of the globe to catch them.  The real trophys, though, are the “Browns” – see our photo section to see a few recent catches by our guests.

Golfers – Big Creek Golf & Country Club, Twin Lakes Golf Course, and River Cliff Golf Course are all a short drive from the cabin.

Fun for the entire family – Branson is just 1½-2 hours from the cabin. You will fine shows, Ziplining, Silver Dollar City, Branson Landing, and other attractions.  Historic Eureka Springs is 88 miles (2 hours) away.  Canoeing or kayaking on any of the many rivers in the area (the Buffalo is breathtaking), ample trails for hiking, caves for spelunking, and a plethora of antique shops.

The Unique Benefits at this Cabin:

The famous White River is 30 feet from cabin’s lower deck.  Convenient to grocery store, restaurants, gas stations (circa 2 miles to Gassville).  Quite neighborhood, nothing across the river but a forest.  Eagles (1 of several nests is just down stream) like to cruse up and down the river to fish – have had as many as 5 at once sited at River Mist – the adult Eagles may have been training their kids.  Zaidee & I have had an Eagle diving for fish close to us while we were floating our kayaks down the White River to the cabin.  We don’t paddle much – float, eat, check out the nice homes, eat, enjoy the river, eat, etc.  Our good friend, Debbie, at Cotter Trout Dock [cottertroutdock.com] gives our guests a 10% discount on a guided fishing trip.  The guides are real pros.  She has half-day, full day w/river-side meal, or even camp overnight on their own island upstream from River Mist.

Large public boat ramp in nearby Cotter, very small ramp at our cabin; Branson Airport 80 miles/1.5 hours; Pet MAY be allowed-call to check and we will talk about your furry family friend.  Two miles to grocery store, restaurants, gas stations.  Smoke Free Cabin.  Note:  Train passes on nearby tracks a couple times a day & toots horn; other than that, an occasional fishing boat motoring by on river and an eagle screeching, it is very quite.  Not a beautiful lawn, but we try to keep the weeds all the same height (it’s a fish’n cabin in the boonies for heaven’s sake).  This area of the river is very quiet with nothing but cliffs and trees across the river.

The home features two master bedrooms with queen-size beds and bathrooms.  A third bathroom is shared by two more bedrooms; with queen and bunk bed respectively.  The kitchen is fully equipped with pots, pans, dishes, utensils, and basic spices.  Kitchen has all the standard items: oven, refreg. with prolific ice-maker, microwave, dishwasher, coffee pot with starter coffee, sugar, creamer, and filters, etc. Grill your favorite food on the gas grill or, if you don’t feel like cooking, there are several restaurants in nearby Gassville & Cotter.  Linens and towels provided.  Flat screen TV w/ HD satellite service (movie channels), along with DVR & Blue Ray DVD player is provided (loaded with movies), also some DVD movies on-hand.  Only one TV, located in the living room.  Some rentals will have a TV in every bedroom – this is a fisherman’s cabin, you TV buffs will have to rough it.  There is a cell phone booster because of steep river banks. Cabin phone can receive all calls, but make local calls only.  The WI-FI internet allows cruising the net from anywhere in the cabin as well as on both upper and lower decks and by river’s edge.

Note:  there is a small ramp at River Mist; please DO NOT use the very large ramp next door (upstream).  It belongs to the upstream houses.

River Mist fishing update —

We have installed a super-duper new AC/heat pump – the old one struggled at times in the mid-summer heat.

There seems to be an infestation of weeds on the “lee” side up and down the river.  This problem has appeared several years ago – some believe the weeds were introduced from boat bottoms in Bull Shoals Lake.  From a fisherman’s point of view the grass and moss behind River Mist is wonderful, as it has lots of “scuds” the smaller trout feed on, bring in the larger trout to feed on the small ones; therefore, contributing to the awesome fishing. It may be bothersome for floaters or swimmers (only the young and foolish can swim in that cold trout stream), but to fishermen it is a blessing. Waders often catch their limit wading to edge of weed patch & casting along the edge of the weeds (during low water generation).  BUT – when the river is low (running on 1 generator for minimum flow), the weeds are what my wife calls – ugly.  It also makes fishing from the bank difficult.  Waders or a boat are the way to go. You can call for automated report of water generation here:  870-421-5311.

River Mist is located in the Ozark Mountains of Northern Arkansas, between Mountain Home & Harrison. N 36 degrees 15’ 26”; W 092 degrees 29’ 9”.  Two miles (paved road) from Gassville which has Hwy 62/412 running thru it.

Because internet scamers like to use instant money transfer services such as Western Union and Money Gram. We, at River Mist, only take personal checks. This safeguards you in that you can stop payment on a check and scammers will not use them because it leaves a track right to them thru their bank when cashed.  If you are ever in doubt before making a payment, call us (the owners) at the number listed in this website (hm: 870-453-5356, or Jimmy’s cell: 870-404-7593). We live in Flippin, AR, so if someone wants you to wire money to Ireland or Kentucky (two recent scammers) then it’s not us. We deal in personal checks – scammers don’t.

Note:  Remind us if you are returning guests for your 10% discount.  To all our “regular” guests that keep coming back – thanks, we are so Blessed with great guests!

Rental started in 2010:

Professionally managed by a local husband/wife team that try hard to make each stay a memorable experience worth repeating.  We pride ourselves in providing a clean, well stocked cabin (two ladies from our church assist us in cleaning.

We fell in love with the Ozark Mountain/Twin Lakes Region while visiting a couple decades ago.  Our career provided the opportunity to live in various locations throughout the world, which helped in our decision to retire in the Ozarks.  Small town life along with mountains (well we call them mountains), forests, lakes, and rivers made this the perfect vacation/retirement location; this is truly God’s country.

When we started, we had ads in both “HomeAway” and “VRBO”.  We became so busy that we stopped our ads in 2016.  Most of our are activity now is returning guests and those few that stumble onto this little website I put together – poorly I admit (RiverMist.net).  Another reason we left those two companies is HomeAway bought out VRBO and instituted an aggressive management style we did not like.  Making money seemed to be their top goal.  Anyway, we keep busy enough and enjoy our returning guests, they have become like family.
